One solution is to reform the 14th amendment so that it states that the new born child should have at least one parent who is a legal U.S. citizen to be able to become an automatic legal U.S. citizen. Another solution that we purpose is to repeal the 14th amendment, removing the idea completely so that the United States does not have birthright citizenship.
Reforming the 14th amendment would be a good way to solve the problem because it adresses only the problem and does not affect other people. Removing the 14th amendment would be a little more difficult because it could create problems how people should gain citizenship if their parents are legal citizens.
IV. The solution I (we) propose is: (This section will become you proposed legislation. Be sure to include what agency will implement your law, proposed cost if any and effective date). You must also state how your bill fits within the limits of the Constitution.
Reform Section 1 of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution so that it states,"All persons born to at least one legal United States citizen or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." This will be enforced by the Department of Homeland Security beginning June 1, 2011.
This soulution would help with the number of illegal immigrants.It would stop the illegal immigrants who come to the United States just to give birth because they would no longer have birthright citizenship. Illegal immigrants would no longer be able to use their legal citizen children as an excuse to stay in the U.S. In addition this would make deportation much cleaner and easier.
If this problem is not addressed the amount of children born to illegal immigrants in the U.S. would greatly increase along with the amount of money taxpayers will have to spend to pay for these children and their parents.
